“I like to see a man proud of the place in which he lives.
I like to see a man live so that his place will be proud of him.”
– Abraham Lincoln
Hi Friends!
I’m Mommy Libs and these are my boys.
A picture where we are all looking at the camera at the same time is rare in my world. So please excuse the photo.
We live in Redondo Beach, California. Land of the over-priced sand lot with zero yard and neighbors who look into your bedroom from their bathroom window.
I started ‘Dream This Home’ because I wanted to share my experience of building a ground-up home on a pretty tight budget and also wanted a chronicle of our experiences for my children. (If they ever want to read about what we went through in the future…) We currently live in a tiny beach bungalow and I’ve learned to love it and all that has gone into it over the years, but I’m also excited to have more space. I’m truly passionate about home design – inside and out – and the prospect of realizing my dream for my family makes me overwhelmed with joy. More than anything, I’m excited about paring down and starting fresh.
A little background: I have a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Southern California and before my stay-at-home-mommy days, worked in several boutique firms designing other people’s dream homes. I married a general contractor who builds custom homes… so you know where this is going…
We designed our dream home together over the years and are now in the thick of the approval process to get it built. I’m going to be honest, my posts are not going to be pretty or glamorous. But what they will be is – real. Real experiences, real hair tearing, and real tears of joy when things go right. (Hopefully)
Interspersed with the Ground-Up chronicle, I’m planning on including my ‘humble musings’ on a lot of home building/decorating details, posts on creating a home with kidlettes, as well as organizational tips on how I personally keep house. I’m a ‘Type A’ neat freak with champagne taste on a beer budget. But we are somehow gonna get through this and get it done! KAMPAI to our future!
I have aways loved the Abraham Lincoln quote from above. I want to be proud of where I live now and live so that our future home is proud to house my rowdy, perfectly imperfect family. So, won’t you join me throughout this journey?
